Norris Cole Breakdown:Turns heads in 20 point outburst against Boston

Yet another steal for the Miami Heat in the draft. Norris Cole the first year player out of Cleveland State supposed to be a spectator for the most part this season. He’s come on strong to make a lasting impression for the Miami coaching staff.

For all young point guards watch very closely to how Cole plays. There is no waste of time or space in his game. Norris pushes the ball in transition to create opportunities for himself and teammates. If he beats the defense up the floor he’ll attack the rim or look for open teammates. In the half court he can change speeds and get into the lane for offense.

Point guards need to be able to understand what is a good shot and also what shots to give up to give the ball to open players on their team. Notice on the tape Cole on multiple occasions made quick passes for “swing swings” to open teammates for uncontested shots. Cole has toughness and talent which will take him a long way in the NBA. He plays with heart, but under control. A lot of young players especially at the point guard position tend to over dribble and not go anywhere. Cole can get into the lane as well as score in transition, and make the open deep jumper.

On the defensive end he takes space away from the player he’s guarding. He has active hands to come up with steals and/ or deflections.

If tonight’s 20 point 4 assist 3 steal performance was any indication for what to expect from Norris Cole you will be seeing him play in their league for a long time.
