Luis Scola Breakdown:18 point 5 rebound night sparks Houston over San Antonio

The Rockets this year are trying to find an identity. WIthout a true star on their roster they will have to win games by grinding them out on good half court basketball and a collective effort on the defensive end. Luis Scola  in my opinion is one of the more underrated players in the NBA. His combination of skill, strength, and toughness makes him a very tough player to match up with.

Scola can score on either block and has the ability to go over both shoulders. His range is very good from 15-17 feet. You can run him in pick and pop or put him at the high post and can be very effective. I think Scola will thrive in Kevin McHale’s system. His ability to score, pass, and hard nosed play will give the Rockets a true offensive option. With their ability to throw the ball down on the block and force opponents to double this will open up opportunities for shooters and cutters on the weak side to score.

His lack of explosiveness and length limits his ability to finish at the rim or be as effective rolling hard on screen and roll, but it gives them a true option to go to. With the addition of Samuel Dalembert who can protect the paint  and dive to the rim you will see a lot of interior passing from high post to low. I think the Rockets will have enough role players and pieces to hit their stride around all star break.

As you can see on the video he gave San Antonio all they can handle with an 18 point 5 rebound performance.
